We are fundraising for kids to receive Free School Lunch Meals in San Miguel!
i! We’re Mia and Joaquin, and we’ve been part of this challenge for Feed the Hungry since it first started in 2020. Back then, I was only 7 years old and Joaquin was just 2, but we still joined the fun to help Feed the Hungry San Miguel give free school meals to kids who need them.
Now, five years later, this challenge means even more to us. Every year, we save part of our allowance to donate, we train, and we do our best to encourage our friends and family to support us.
For me, Mia, the Walk • Run • Bike has become more than just a chance to see all of my friends from San Migue that is fun, and a chance for fundraising. I’ve even volunteered as a photographer, capturing the joy of children receiving a delicious and nutritious meal at their schools. I’ve also visited the distribution center with my entire class from Newland San Miguel, so I know all the work behind the scenes that goes into making sure these schools receive the food they need to prepare meals for kids. I also know how much one hot, nutritious meal can change a student’s day.
For my brother Joaquin, it started when he was too little to understand. But now that he’s 7, I think he is starting to really get it. He knows that by walking, running, or biking, he’s helping other kids have the same healthy meals he sees served in schools. As he says, “That makes me happy.”
This year, we would like to dedicate our walk to Andy and Dale Brous, who sadly passed away. They were true community givers, and we are sure that from heaven they are cheering us on. We want to honor their love for San Miguel by walking, running, and biking with even more heart.
We may be young, but we know we can help reach the goal of providing 100,000 free school lunch meals for children in San Miguel.
